COURSE INFORMATION

Our programme is designed to help students develop a variety of skills. Students can choose either a full-time or part-time study plan, and take a combination of Core Classes and Special Interest Classes. This is part of General and Academic English Course and approved by NZQA.

Core Classes
Students take core classes in Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Grammar.

These are offered at 4 levels:

Level 1           (Elementary)
Level 2           (Pre-Intermediate)
Level 3           (Intermediate)
Level 4           (Upper Intermediate)

Students may be enrolled in classes at more than one level. For example, a student may enroll in Listening and Speaking classes at Level 4 and Writing, Reading and Grammar classes at Level 3.  This allows students to focus on improving skills they find difficult and extend themselves in the areas they feel most confident.

Assessment

Regular assessment provides ongoing encouragement as well as feedback on students’ progress and understanding. Each ENGLISH NOW! class is assessed independently and includes:

  • Progress tests
  • Completion of in-class and out-of-class tasks and assignments

Moving Up a Level

Students who successfully complete the assessment requirements for a particular class can move up a level. For example, successful completion of Listening Skills Level 2 means the student can progress to Listening Skills Level 3.

Certificate of Achievement

A Certificate of Achievement is awarded to every student who:

       1. Successfully completes all assessments over a 12-week full time course of study
       2. Maintains an attendance rate of 80% or higher

The Level indicated on the Certificate of Achievement will indicate the level of the majority of classes the student was enrolled in over the 12-week period.

Moving On to Regent’s Academic Programmes

A ‘Certificate of Achievement – Level 4’ combined with a favourable Progress Report may satisfy the English language requirements for enrolling in one of Regent’s tertiary-level programmes in Business, Horticulture, Computing or Mental Health Support.

Progress Reports

Every 12 weeks and/or on completion of study, students receive a Progress Report which provides a summary of learning progress and achievement.
